 Frequently Asked Questions
About PBX
Q. What is a PBX?
PBX stands for "private branch exchange" system. These are private telephone switching systems owned by businesses such as hospitals, hotels, and other multi-line locations (e.g., dormitories). A PBX system controls telecommunications within that setting and allows features such as multiple lines and numbers, the ability to transfer calls in-house, and shortened internal dialing. Like a regular telephone, the owner is responsible for system maintenance.
Q. How do I know if my business has a PBX system?
Contact the telecommunications manager or equipment provider for your company.
Q. How much does it cost to upgrade or replace a PBX system?
The cost to upgrade or replace a PBX system depends on the type of system and features required by the customer. To determine the cost impact to your system, please contact your telecommunications manager or PBX equipment provider.

To add features, simply upgrade the software. To add trunks (incoming phone lines) or extensions just add a new card to the inside of your computer, allowing for more connections into and/or out of the server.
